De Eerste Drie Maanden van SBS

Het is begonnen! 18 september begon mijn School of Biblical Studies in Amsterdam. Een periode van zeer intensief de Bijbel bestuderen. We hebben tot nu toe een groot deel van het Nieuwe Testament bestudeerd en ik ervaar hoe goed het is om de Bijbel te bestuderen. Als een Christen die z’n hele leven naar de kerk is geweest kun je vaak tegen een muur aan lopen. Het kan voelen alsof er niks meer te leren is (“Waar kan de volgende Bijbelstudie nu over gaan?”). Maar er zit zoveel informatie in de Bijbel die we nog kunnen ontdekken.

Deze periode in mijn leven zal een periode van voorbereiding zijn. Net als Timotheüs die volgens Paul klaar was voor zijn dienende taak als verkondiger van het evangelie. Hij ging door een tijd van voorbereiding heen. Werd onderwezen in het Woord en had Paul als voorbeeld. Nu was het tijd om zijn bediening op te pakken. Ik merk dat het zo waardevol is om geworteld te zijn in de Bijbel.

Naast dat deze School of Biblical Studies erg waardevol is is het soms ook erg zwaar. Binnen een week behandelen we een boek als Handelingen en Romeinen en voor de kleine boeken zoals 1 Petrus hebben we vaak maar twee dagen, waarin we het boek minimaal vijf keer lezen, telkens op een andere manier. We focussen op observatie (structuur, achtergrondinformatie, verbanden), interpretatie (waarom is het boek geschreven, wat wil de schrijver overbrengen en hoe komt dit over op de lezer) en toepassing (hoe kan ik dit Bijbelboek toepassen op mijn eigen leven?). Dit alles gebeurt in een hoog tempo waarin ook veel persoonlijke dingen worden aangestipt. Gebed is daarom zeer welkom :).

Na het eerste kwartiel komen ook deadlines om het schoolgeld te betalen steeds dichterbij. Tijdens dit kwartiel heb ik hard gewerkt aan het ontwerpen en drukken van postkaarten om te kunnen verkopen. Ook ga ik op 1 januari een nieuwjaarsduik doen als ik een bedrag van 500 euro op kan halen. De foto’s van de ansichtkaarten kunt u onderaan deze post vinden. Als je het formulier invult doe ik de kaarten zo snel mogelijk op de post en stuur ik je een Tikkie via je telefoonnummer. Als je een andere manier prettiger vindt valt dat ook te regelen. Voor de nieuwjaarsduik verzamel ik nu eerst reacties. Als het bedrag dat ik ervoor binnenhaal 500 euro of meer is ren ik op 1 januari het water in.

It has begun! September 18 my School of Biblical Studies started in Amsterdam. A time of intensive Bible study. So far, we have studied almost every book of the New Testament, and I experience how good it is to study the Bible. As a Christian who has gone to church his/her whole life you can often run into a wall. It can feel like there is nothing left to learn (“What can the next Bible study be about?”). But there is so much in the Bible that we can still discover.

This time in my life will be a time of preparation. Just like Timothy who, according to Paul, was ready for his ministry as a preacher of the gospel. He went through a time of preparation. The word was taught to him by his family and by Paul and he had Paul as an example. Now it was time to fulfill his ministry. I find it so valuable to be rooted in the Bible.

In addition to the fact that this School of Biblical Studies is very valuable, it is sometimes very difficult. Within a week we study a book like Acts and Romans and for the small books like 1 Peter we often only have two days in which we read the book at least five times, each time in a different way. We focus on observation (structure, background information, connections), interpretation (why is the book written, what does the author want to convey and how does this come across to the original reader) and application (how can I apply this Bible book to my own life?). All this is happening at a fast pace wherein also many personal issues are being highlighted. Prayer is therefore very welcome :).

After the first quarter, deadlines for paying school fees are also getting closer. During this quarter I worked hard on designing and printing postcards to be able to sell. I will also do a New Year’s dive on January 1st if I can collect an amount of 500 euros. You can find the pictures of the postcards at the bottom of this post. If you fill in the form I will post the cards as quickly as possible and I will send you a Tikkie via your telephone number. If you think another way to send me the money is better, that can also be arranged. For the New Year’s dive, I now collect the responses first. If the amount that I bring in is 500 euros or more, I’ll dive into the water on January 1st.
