MY STORY

Ever since I was a teenager I've had a hunger for more. I think I've always taken Christianity and religion in general quite seriously and was passionate about how we did things in church. If I would be a Christian I would then want to fully live that out. While I was in college I started to feel like I needed to do something with this. I wanted to find a way wherein I could fully live out my faith and it felt difficult to do that with my degree in Applied Cognitive Psychology. If it was possible I wanted to use my degree but I didn't know how.

DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING SCHOOL

When I was finishing up my studies I started to look for jobs and programs that I could do this with. By googling I found a school called a Discipleship Training School (DTS), aimed at helping people grow in a more intimate relationship with God. YWAM is a worldwide Christian organization with the goal of getting to know God and making Him known. What's great about this organization is that it consists of Christians from many different cultures, age groups, and church denominations. I did my DTS in Muizenberg, South Africa in January 2019. It was a time for me wherein my relationship with God became way more personal. I got to know myself and God so much better. From South Africa, I went to Japan on outreach where I supported different ministries with prayer, Bible studies, and evangelism.

When I was in Japan I often asked God what my next step should be. With DTS being so groundbreaking, I felt that I needed to grow further in my relationship with God and knowledge. It is possible to do more schools with YWAM if you have completed a DTS. These schools can be focused on things like evangelism, health care, or worship. In Japan, it became clear that the next step would be a School of Biblical Studies (SBS). I applied for this school and before I went to bed I prayed to God for a dream. In this dream, God confirmed my decision to do an SBS.

SCHOOL OF BIBLICAL STUDIES

This school started in September 2019. My goal with the SBS was to have a strong foundation in God's truth and a strong discernment for the rest of my life. In this school, I studied the Bible intensely for nine months using the inductive Bible study method. This method is based on looking at the original reader of the different Bible books and how this reader would have interpreted the text. From this understanding, a modern application is formed. Studying a Bible book started with reading each book out loud, observing the style of writing, researching the author, the audience, and the cultural background of the text. The next step was interpreting the text chapter by chapter and then ending each book with a practical application that will help me to create bridges to society and impact my personal faith. The Bible is meant to change your life and the life of others.

GLOBALRIZE

After my School of Biblical Studies, I went to work with GlobalRize. GlobalRize is a non-profit organization that wants to share God's Word on the internet. It does that using social media, blog articles, chat, and Bible courses, in an ever-increasing number of languages. With my job as an online marketeer, I can combine my degree in Applied Cognitive Psychology with my passion for the Bible. As an online marketeer, I have the responsibility to make the work of GlobalRize visible, to draw people to our Facebook pages, websites, and chat. It's an amazing opportunity to bring the gospel to people who wouldn't otherwise be reached.
